We 100% back the current loafer trend. Loafers are not only comfortable AF but are also easy to dress up and down. They are one of the ultimate styling tools you need to have in your closet to effortlessly elevate any look. While you can opt for some great budget friendly options we recommend investing in a quality pair made from real leather. They are a shoe that can be worn all year round and are worth spending a little more on. This trend is built to last so your loafers should be too. Plus once you try them you’re going to basically live in them - trust us.

How To Style Loafers → Tights + Skirt + Oversized Sweater

Sweater & Skirt: Aritzia, Tights: SKIMS, Shoes: Gucci, Bag: Chanel, Watch: Rolex

Socks aren’t the only thing you can style chunky loafers with. Tights are a great way to create balance in an outfit. Using the chunky loafer helps to create a “proportion sandwich” where the slenderness of your legs creates a break between the oversized top and bottom. Plus the oversized sweater with skirts look is also really hot right now so 2 for 1!

While we love the added element of the deep green we know the plaid look isn’t for everyone. If the plaid is too much for you, swap it out for a solid black skirt and you’re good to go. The sweater color matches the neutral tones in the skirt perfectly but if you’re switching to a solid skirt any lighter neutral will look great. Make sure you opt for a sweater long enough to cover most of the skirt to achieve this look successfully. You want only a few inches of the skirt to be showing.

Lift the sleeves on the sweater to showcase the watch to up the elegance of the look. We can’t really explain why, but there’s some magic to showing off your wrists in long sleeved items. It instantly adds elegance to any look.

How To Style Loafers → Trench + Socks + T-shirt + Shorts

T-Shirt & Shorts: Aritzia, Earrings: Cartier, Socks: SKIMS,
Shoes: Chanel, Coat: Ralph Lauren

Who doesn’t love a good monochrome outfit? The best part about this outfit is that you can trade out the trench for a wool coat when the weather gets chilly, and swap both of those options for an oversized blazer in warmer months.

The key to rocking a bare leg with chunky loafers is the art of adding socks. This helps to balance out the heaviness of the shoe with the delicate part of your ankle that would otherwise look off if you rocked a chunky loafer sans socks. If you were to opt for a more slender style of loafer you could totally get away without socks or tights but the chunky ones definitely need one or the other.

The t-shirt in this look is intended to be a relaxed or oversized look. Tuck the shirt in to pull the outfit together. We love the rolled sleeve detail on this t-shirt but it’s not a must for the overall look. While we think an all black look can look amazing, we wouldn’t recommend swapping the t-shirt in this look to black. The grey helps to add dimension and pairs well with the bag.

If you want to swap the shorts and t-shirt for something equally stylish but a little more effortless you can opt for an oversized dress shirt and leather jacket. The key to adding the jacket in all scenarios is to give it that element of fall, however if you’re down to brave the cold, or live in warmer areas then feel free to rock these looks without one.

How To Style Loafers → Blazer + T-Shirt + Jeans

Bag: Hermes, Jewelry: Cartier

While we love dark tones for fall but you can never go wrong with a crisp white t-shirt and denim look.

As with our previous look, adding the blazer is optional, though we do love the full look. Layering your outfits with a blazer is one of the easiest ways to make more casual outfits look complete, high end and well put together. Plus the blazer matches the ‘academia’ vibe of the loafers quite well.

Opt-ing for a white shirt and lighter jeans is a great way to incorporate lighter colors into your fall wardrobe. It’s a solid all year round look you’ll be able to wear again come summertime. For this look the t-shirt can be fitted or you can opt for a more relaxed look and tuck the shirt in.

Make sure when pairing jeans with this look you opt for a straight cut. Oversized jeans can also bring a streetwear vibe to the look, but skinny jeans will not look right - just trust us. Especially if you opt for a fitted t-shirt on top. You can swap out the jeans for trousers to make the look feel less casual, but the fit should still be a straight cut for trousers. If you wanted to keep that casual element with trousers we recommend trading the blazer for a varsity-style jacket.
