Red Is the Color We're Fall-ing for This Season

Here are our favorite ways to incorporate red into your fall wardrobe.

Styling the color red for fall with three fall outfit options

It’s no secret that red dominated the runway for FW23 shows. We saw nearly every designer incorporating this attention grabbing color in their collections and have been waiting for our moment to get a piece of the action. Now that the leaves are starting to transition into beautiful hues of red, it’s our cue to follow suit and we’re so ready for it.

While red can look effortlessly chic, turn heads and demand attention, it can also give off “I just baked a batch of Christmas cookie” vibes, or just feel too intense. Whether you’re trying to dress it up or dress it down, we’ll help you embrace this trend with confidence. From most intense to subtle hints we have you covered with everything you need to know about styling red this season.

How To Style → An All Red Outfit

Jumpsuit: Mango, Bag: Hermes Mini Kelly, Shoes: Dior Dway, Jewelry: Bvlgari Serpenti

An all red outfit is a statement, and it’s one we want to see you make this season. If you want to rock an all red ‘fit this fall then adding in black shoes and accessories is a great way to enhance that contrast from the red and really stand out. Gold accessories are a yes, but a gold bag or shoes will be the thing that crosses you into Christmas/holiday territory.

Other colors that would pair well with an all red ‘fit include nude, beige, navy, and grey. Keeping your bag and shoes in more neutral tones help to let the red be the centerpiece of the outfit.

Following the ‘sandwich’ method helps to tie the outfit together. As you can see in this example we’re pulling the black together with the shoes and the bag, and then the two tone from the watch is represented in the earrings and ring respectively. This helps to create a cohesive look without feeling one dimensional.

How To Style → A Red Top

Sweater: Naked Cashmere, Jeans & Jacket: Abercrombie,
Shoes: Louis Vuitton, Bag: Celine, Jewelry: Van Cleef

If you’re looking for a way to make a statement without going all in on a red fit then a red top is a must have. We personally recommend investing in a good quality cashmere sweater. They are a great investment, extremely comfortable, elevate any look, and stand the test of time (if you take care of them properly). Do your research when shopping for cashmere items, make sure the brand has good reviews, the material is not blended, and that it’s competitively priced but not too good to be true.

If a red top feels like too much on it’s own you can always add layers to help tone it down. Layer blazers, cardigans, or sweaters over red tops and jackets over red sweaters. Try to stay away from patterns when layering, red already demands a lot of attention and you don’t want the outfit to end up looking too busy.

As mentioned before red can pair nicely with several neutrals so you can play with this look by swapping out the jacket and denim colors to suit the occasion you’re styling for.

How To Style → Red Accessories

Top: Artizia, Jeans: Abercrombie, Twilly: Hermes, Shoes: Hermes,
Bag: Louis Vuitton, Jewelry: Bvlgari

The easiest way to incorporate red into your wardrobe is through accessories. They are great if you want to participate in the trend in a subtle way. While rocking a red bag, shoes, or belt are more obvious ways to use red this fall, we’re really loving silks as a unique way to add a pop of red.

If you’re not looking to break the bank on this trend but don’t want to re-wear the same piece over and over then we recommend investing in a good silk piece. Whether it’s a twilly or a larger scarf there are endless ways for you to style the same piece. This gives you the opportunity to use them in new ways each time you want to wear them without having to purchase additional items. We love adding a twilly to a handbag for an instant ‘fresh-look’.

If you decide to go for some red footwear this season go for all red if you’re doing heels, boots, or flats. If you’re doing sneakers play with fun accents of red rather than an all red sneaker.
