Stripes are in and they aren’t going anywhere. Adding this staple item to your wardrobe is a must - not only for fall but for spring too. We love an item that can be transitioned over multiple seasons and the striped sweater is it. Plus if you can wear it multiple times for multiple seasons it technically costs less per wear and is a better deal so obviously you have to get one - girl math.
Striped Sweater + Jeans + Sneakers + Tote
Sweater: Aritzia, Jeans: AGOLDE, Shoes: Chanel,
Bag: Goyard, Watch: Rolex, Earrings: BVLGARI
Adding a stripe sweater with jeans is an easy way to elevate an everyday look. This is a great outfit for running errands, doing some work at a coffee shop if you’re a WFH girlie, or even a casual lunch with friends. It’s the outfit you go for if you want to look effortlessly stylish.
We prefer a lighter wash, straight fit jean with this look because it’s more versatile if you’re swapping out the sweater colors. Lighter washes would still would work well if you did the sweater in the reverse stripe pattern (navy with cream instead of cream with navy). It would also work if your sweater has brown or black stripes instead of navy.
Sneakers compliment this chic casual look but if you want to dress it up just a bit more without stepping into heel territory you can swap them for some ballet flats, or loafer style mules. If you wanted to dress it down a bit more, or you just didn’t wash your hair that day, toss a baseball hat on with a cute low bun and keep the sneakers.
Adding a tote bag that compliments the secondary color in the bag helps tie everything together. If a tote is too big for you then you can opt for a crossbody bag like the small Celine Triomphe bag.
Striped Sweater + Long Skirt + Flats + Bucket Bag
Sweater: H&M, Skirt: Aritzia, Shoes & Bag: Dior, Jewelry: Van Cleef
For casual walks on the Upper East Side, to chilly mornings getting breakfast in Miami or even a daytime date, this look is a perfect way to style this sweater in a more feminine yet trendy way.
Layering the striped sweater over the silk skirt is a great way to style this sweater without adding additional bulk on the bottom of the outfit. The skirt gives it a playful element and will give you some fluidity to the outfit when you walk.
Flats are definitely in this fall and are the perfect pairing with this outfit. We love the pearl detail on these Dior ballet flats. That little detail helps to tie the whole outfit together by carrying in the white from the sweater to the bottom of the outfit.
While the monochrome look is great for fall you can always add a pop of color with jewelry like we did with the Carnelian Van Cleef bracelet, or opt for something more eye catching and swap the black bag for more of a statement piece. The bucket bag does make a statement in its own way though, the heavy gold hardware adds just the right amount of pop without having to opt for a colored bag.
Striped Sweater + Shorts + Riding Boots
Sweater: H&M, Shorts: Artizia, Boots: Hermes,
Sunglasses: Celine, Bracelet: Tiffany, Bag: Bottega Veneta
Taking it up a notch in the chic department, we can pair a striped sweater with shorts and riding boots for a more elevated look. This is still something you can wear casually but definitely carries more of a “dressed up” presence than our previous two looks.
For variations to this look, the shorts can easily be swapped for a mini skirt and the riding boots can be swapped for ankle boots, or even heels. You could also add a blazer that matches the shorts if you want to add layers and depth to the outfit. The options are pretty much endless with this look, which is one of the reasons why we love it. If you’re playing with colors make sure the shorts match the secondary color in the sweater, and the shoes compliment both colors for a cohesive look.
It’s called a capsule sweater for a reason, you’re never going to run out of ways to style this piece. The options we’ve shown here are FW inspired but we can revisit this staple item come spring time for a fresher, lighter look.
